Less than a day after a gang of masked robbers stole Rp 20 million (US$2,086) in cash, four cellular phones and a laptop from a filling station on Jl. Raya Bojong Pemda, Tigaraksa, Tangerang regency on Monday, the police have arrested three of the six suspected robbers.

Tangerang Police chief Sr. Comr. Bambang Priyo Andogo identified the suspects as A.A. Dhani, 27, Syahdi Gunawan, 29, and Ahmad, 60. Ahmad was a security officer at the filling station.

“We picked them up from their respective homes here in Tigaraksa,” Bambang told reporters on Tuesday, adding that the three other suspects remained at large.

“We have obtained the identities of three other suspects. It’s a matter of time for us to get them all,” he said, adding that the suspects would be charged under Article 365 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum 15-year prison term.

The robbers climbed a fence at the filling station on Monday morning, broke into the office and took hostage Hermawan, the fuel station supervisor, Rahma, his wife, Dani, his son and Ahmad, the security officer.

The robbers tied the hands and feet of the four, taped their mouths and confined them in a musholla (prayer room) before taking the money and other property. (swd)
