Police name suspect in Papua student killing

The police on Monday named as a suspect in the murder of Sepnat Karat Yusuf Badi, who died after supposedly is stabbed in the chest during last Friday scrap under Papua students in Bandung.

Bandung Wetan police chief Comr. Wiharyatmo said that the suspect, a student of Sangga Buana University of Sorong, Papua, had detained by his Office.

"The accused is charged under Article 351 and 338 criminal code on abuse and murder," he said.

The articles carry a maximum sentence of seven and 15 years prison term respectively.

Wiharyatmo refused to comment on the motive behind the murder.

The brawl occurred for the Papuan students dormitory on JL. Cilaki in Bandung and was apparently triggered by a discussion between Sepnat and Yusuf.

Sepnat was reportedly furious when he ask his friends to the mess that Yusuf left heard after Sepnat drank beer in the dorm room to clean.

The altercation escalated quickly into a brawl in which many residents of the dormitory.

During the fight, Sepnat a knife found in the dorm garage and used it in self-defense.

Sepnat said that he only waved the knife to protect himself and not has nothing said about the stabbing Yusuf. (han/iwa)
