A team of prosecutors has demanded 12 years imprisonment for state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api (KAI) former president director Ronny Wahyudi and former financial director Achmad Kuntjoro for embezzling Rp 100 billion (US$10.7 million) of the firm’s money.

Each of them also had to pay Rp 500 million in fines or serve an additional six months in prison, prosecutor Ahmad Yohana said during reading out the demands at the Bandung Corruption Court on Monday.

Ahmad said both defendants had been found guilty of enriching themselves as stipulated in Article 2 or Article 18 of the Corruption Law, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.

Both defendants were allegedly held responsible for investing the firm’s money in PT Optima Kharya Capital Management (OKCM) on June 24, 2008. The OKCM, however, failed to return the funds on the due date in December 2008.

A prosecutor said Ronny and Ahmad had violated the regulation of KAI by investing the money in the company.

According to the Supreme Audit Agency's report, Ronny and Achmad had caused Rp 100 billion in state losses.(cor/swd)
