President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has donated an Ongole cow weighing 1 ton and 168 centimeters in height to be slaughtered during the commemoration of Idul Adha (Islamic Day of Sacrifice) at Istiqlal Grand Mosque in Jakarta, presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said on Thursday.

“The President will hand over the cow to the Idul Adha organization committee at Istiqlal mosque. The animal was certified by the Animal Health Unit at the Jakarta Fishery and Agriculture Agency on Oct. 23,” Julian told journalists at the State Palace.

Muslims all over the world will celebrate Idul Adha on Friday, by slaughtering animals such as sheep, goats or cows.

The President and Vice President, as well as ministers and other high-ranking officials, are regular donors of sacrificial animals at Istiqlal, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia.

The meat of the slaughtered animals will be distributed to thousands of Jakartans, who usually would have been waited since early morning.(iwa)
