The clash between two villages in South Lampung regency on Sunday did not stop even after three people were killed. Another clash broke out on Monday, claiming 10 lives.

Hundreds of men from Way Panji and Kalianda districts also burned many houses.

After discovering that three of their residents had been killed and ten others injured during Sunday’s clash, Kalianda residents were enraged and decided to wage an even bigger attack on Way Panji district, tempo.co reported.

Some 2,000 officers from South Lampung Mobile Brigade and the Indonesian Military were deployed to tame the angry mob, including shooting tear gas but to no avail.

The mob, armed with sharp weapons and Molotov cocktails, broke the officers’ barricade and set fire to a military vehicle.

The clash between two villages began after men from Sidoreno hamlet, Way Panji district, upset two young women from the neighboring Agom hamlet, Kalianda district. The incident resulted in hundreds of Kalianda residents attacking Way Panji and burning down several houses. (han/lfr)
