Tontowi/Liliyana advance to quarter finals in French Open Super Series

Badminton mixed doubles Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir on Thursday won a ticket to French Open Super Series’ quarter finals after beating Thai mixed doubles Patiphat Chalardchaleam/Savitree Amitrapai, 21-19, 21-13.

The pair went through a dramatic first game when they were left, 2-7, and left further, 10-16. Tontowi/Liliyana, the Denmark Open runner up, however, managed to level the score, 17-17, and led the game 21-19. The pair won the second game easily, 21-13, within 19 minutes.

The number one Indonesian mixed doubles are the only Indonesian pair survives in the tournament after compatriots Muhammad Rijal/Debby Susanto were beaten by Chinese pair Qiu Zihan/Bao Yixin, 21-13, 21-18.

In the quarter final, Tontowi/Liliyana will play either Chris Adcock (the UK)/Imogen Bankier (Scotland) or Robert Blair (Scotland) and Vita Marissa (Indonesia). (swd)
