Three students of the SDN Purwosari 1 state elementary school in Bojonegoro, Central Java, were injured when their classroom ceiling collapsed on Thursday.

Fourth graders Arya Friko Yogantara, Abel and Farhan were rushed to the community health center (Puskesmas) with head injuries.

“We were studying when the ceiling suddenly collapsed,” Arya, who received three stitches in his head, said as quoted bytribunnews.com.

Arya, Abel and Farhan were three of 33 students in the classroom when the incident occurred.

The school principal Bambang Wiwoho said that the school building was too old. “The building was constructed in 1979 and has never been renovated,” he said.

He said that the school did not have enough funds to renovate the building. “I hope that the government will renovate the building soon,” he said. “I’m afraid that other classes are also damaged and could harm our students.” (lfr)
