Singapore gets 12 years for burning houses

Batam District Court handed a 12-year sentence to Singaporean Kerri bin Kasan, 52, after finding him guilty of burning down of 44 houses in Seraya village, Batam. A nine-year-old girl died in the
Blaze.

Kerri told the Court that his wife had an affair with another man. In an act of jealousy he set fire on a pair of shoes from his wife, but the fire got out of hand. Higher regional court Reno Listowo said the defendant was guilty of violating the Penal Code on arson by deliberately fire on the houses, resulting in the death of the girls.

Reno said the defendant and prosecutors, who demanded a sentence of ten years, had seven days to consider a job. Kerri showed no repentance, and public prosecutor Emad Rahmatullah said the
judgement had met the principles of justice.


The victim's mother, said that the verdict too lenient Rosmawati, and demanded a life sentence for Kerri.
