Giant sea wall project can swallow Rp 280t

Jakarta Governor Joko ' Jokowi ' he says will speed up the building of Widodo a giant sea wall the North coast that Rp 280 trillion cost can (28.9 billion dollars).

The wall is supposed to make the capital safe from flooding.

"The project was initially scheduled to kick off in 2020 but I want the study be accelerated and I hope it will be completed [end] this year, so that we can begin construction next year. Else [Jakarta] will be flooded by 2030, "Jokowi said after meeting with the coordination of economic Minister Hatta Rajasa in Jakarta on Wednesday. Jokowi added that the study was conducted by the Ministry of public works and that construction would be carried out by the City Government.

He said the mega-project might be the city budget and the State budget, as well as private sector, to help with the financing.

"I believe that many [companies] will be interested in participating in the project," he said of the current Government plans to expand the number of islands off the coast of the North of Jakarta to 34, to connect to the neighboring provinces of West Java and Banten.
