State-owned toll operator PT Jasa Marga (JSMR) says its total revenues for 2012 increased 39.8 percent to Rp 9.07 trillion (US$930.76 million) from 2012, supported by the growth in its toll road and construction businesses.

Last year, the publicly listed company’s toll road income rose 15.2 percent to Rp 5.58 trillion from 2011.

Jasa Marga recorded that 1.2 billion vehicles nationwide used its toll roads last year, a 10 percent rise
from 2011.

The firm said in a statement that increased traffic was supported by increased activity, especially on its Bogor Outer Ring Road section 1 in West Java, the Semarang-Surakarta line in Central Java and the Surabaya-Mojokerto line in East Java.

The company currently operates 25 toll roads, managed by nine branch offices and several subsidiaries. Its latest financial report said that the Jakarta-Cikampek section contributed the most to toll road income at 16 percent, followed by Cawang-Tomang-Pluit with 12.1 percent and the Jakarta Outer Ring Road non-S section with 11.9 percent.

In 2012, Jasa Marga increased its number of e-Toll card booths to 555 from the 321 in 2011, which led e-Toll card transaction volume to double to 76.35 million, it said.

While e-Toll card use currently comprises 9.25 percent of the firm’s total toll road transactions, Jasa Marga claimed that use was up at toll booths close to residential areas, where transactions comprised 20 percent of the total figure.

Jasa Marga finance director Reynaldi Hermansjah said that the firm would continue to add new and automatic booths in 2013.

The firm recently launched four new toll booths so users could pay fees without having to stop using an on-board unit and an e-Toll card.

Jasa Marga predicts toll road traffic will grow between 4 and 6 percent by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, income from construction more than doubled to Rp 3.34 trillion for 2012, which Reynaldi attributed to increased activities to complete constructions of nine new roads by 2015.

In the second half of this year, the firm plans to open four new toll roads; Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa in Bali, Kebon Jeruk-Ciledug in Jakarta, Gempol-Pandaan in East Java and Ungaran-Bawen in Central Java.

The company’s financial report also said the that firms net profits grew 34 percent to Rp 1.6 trillion from 2011.
