Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Arif Wahyunadi said he has dismissed a police officer who appeared to extort money from a foreign tourist in an incident captured in a video uploaded to YouTube recently.

He said the police officer, identified as Adj. Second Insp. Komang Sarjana, was now being questioned by the Bali Police internal affairs department regarding the violations seen in the video.

“The first step is to take him out from the traffic division. He is now being questioned by internal affairs regarding the video,” he said as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.

However Arif did not elaborate on what punishment Komang might face or on whether Komang was now detained or still free while undergoing investigation.

Komang is shown in the video stopping a Dutch tourist and asking for Rp200,000 (U$20) in lieu of a fine for a minor traffic violation at Petitenget, Northern Kuta, Bali. He later invites the tourist to have a beer with him inside the police post. He bought the beer by using the money that had been earlier given by the Dutch tourist.(nai/dic)
