Iranian election authorities say some new high-profile politicians including hawks, reformists and allies of outgoing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have registered for the presidential elections of 14 June.

Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Ahmadinejad Advisor Ali Akbar Javanfekr and the older brother of the president, Erkin Ahmadinejad are among dozens who joined the race for Saturday registration deadline. Reformist Ebrahim Asgharzadeh and Javad Eta'at activists also signed up.

The campaign is like open season on Ahmadinejad's legacy and his combative style that his status among supporters but alarmed critics enhanced stature. Ahmadinejad is excluded by law from seeking a third term due to term limits under Iran's Constitution.
