The United Development Party (PPP) opened its first overseas branch office in Malaysia, according to party chairman, Suryadharma Ali.

The opening of the overseas branch was marked by the installation of the party's branch executives at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

"The opening of the branch office and the installation of its executives are based on the PPP's principles to find solutions to the nation’s issues, including Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia," Suryadharma said in his written address read out by PPP deputy chairman Suharso to the function’s attendees.

The event organizer M Ridho Kamaludin said the branch office would maintain contact with PPP constituents living overseas, Antara news agency reported on Friday.

Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Herman Prayitno said in his address that the move was the party's first step to cement cooperation with Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia. He said that there were about 1.2 million Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.
