When Fauzi Bowo significantly increased off-street parking fees just days before his departure from office, it was shocking news for many, particularly motorists.

But for inhabitants of the city as a whole, this bitter pill must be swallowed to cure a chronic affliction: traffic chaos.

Your comments:

If fuel was sold at its market price, taking public transportation would become relatively cheaper compared to driving private cars, making it more attractive.

Also, people would be less inclined to make unnecessary journeys. I absolutely agree that the parking fee hike should be followed by an attempt to improve public transportation.
