Novi Amalia referred to BNN rehab program

The police have said that drunk driver Novi Amalia has been sent to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) for a rehabilitation program as she was not in possession of drugs.

"Since we found no evidence of her possessing narcotics, she will be referred to the BNN for rehab, as regulated by Article 127 of the narcotics law," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told reporters on Thursday.

The agency would choose the drug hospital for Novi, Rikwanto said.

Novi Amalia, a model for adult magazines, is alleged to have driven recklessly under the influence of drugs and alcohol when she crashed into seven people on Oct. 11.

She is only being charged with the reckless driving, which caused injuries to other people. She faces a maximum of three years imprisonment under the traffic law.

Rikwanto said the police were preparing Novi's dossier.(fzm/iwa)
