Jakarta Police have banned Indonesia’s veteran rock band Slank from performing in the Soundrenaline 2012 concert at BSD City in South Tangerang on Saturday.

"The band has a bad record when performing. The band has many fans who get involved in riots," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said Friday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Rikwanto emphasized that the ban was only for Slank. Other bands could still perform at the concert.

This is not the first time the police have called off Slank’s performances. In late 2009, a Slank concert in the Jakarta Fair Exhibition Ground was also canceled.

Slank guitarist Abdee Negara said that the ban was upsetting. "Our fans are disappointed. However, they continue to give us support through text messages and social media websites. Some even came to our headquarters," he said, as quoted by kapanlagi.com. (lfr)
