Riau customs and excise confiscates crystal meth worth Rp 780 million

The Pekanbaru Customs and Excise office has confiscated 512 grams of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as sabu, worth Rp 780 million (US$ 81,000) from an Indonesian passenger who had just arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“We detained a female passenger, identified only as RF as soon as she arrived at the Sultan Syarif Kasim II airport on Sunday afternoon,” head of the Pekanbaru Customs and Excise office Aminuddin said on Monday.

He said that according to preliminary questioning the crystal meth would have been distributed in Riau. RF is being detained at the Pekanbaru police’s detention center for further questioning.

Aminuddin said that RF had been accused of smuggling narcotics in violation of Law No.35/2009 on Narcotics and could be sentenced to life imprisonment and fined a maximum of Rp 10 billion if proven guilty.(dic)
