Student dorms based on ethnicity blasted building

An activist East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has support for student dorms based on ethnicity Yogyakarta Governor Hamengkubuwono criticism.

"Such dorms just put students in narrow minded people because they do not mix with others. Personal disputes can transform into something bigger just because people of the same ethnic group join in, "activist Daniel Dama Ledo said as quoted by pace co. on Saturday.

Furthermore, he said that it would be better for students from East Nusa Tenggara to mix with other students through, for example, living in the same House.

"They can learn from each other through more intense live together in the same House," he said.

The comment was made after Hamengkubuwono said he bemoaned the fact that some ethnic groups in Yogyakarta held to himself then mix with others on a daily basis. Hamengkubuwono said later that student housing on the basis of ethnicity had led to misconceptions which in turn can lead to conflicts. (nai/dic)
