The Yahukimo police precinct confiscated 80 tons of diesel fuel that was sent without legal documents from Timika to Yahukimo in machine vessel LCT Karaka on Saturday.

“The illegal diesel fuel is still at LCT Karaka, which is currently docked in Dekai quay in Yahukimo. An investigation by the Yahukimo police precinct is underway,” said the Papua police spokesperson Sr.Comr.I Gede Sumerta Jaya on Monday.

During the interrogation, three of LCT Karaka’s ship crew members told the police that the diesel fuel was ordered by Fendy, the manager of a PT Indo Papua project in Yahukimo.

“PT Indo Papua, a Timika-based company, is currently carrying out road asphalt-resurfacing projects in Yahukimo,” said Sumerta. The diesel fuel was allegedly obtained from an unknown security officer in Timika.

“We have yet to investigate how they could get the diesel fuel from the security officer. It’s still under investigation,” he went on. The police suspected that the diesel fuel was intended to be used to speed up road resurfacing projects in Yahukimo. (ebf)
