Central govt to adopt Jokowi’s job bidding

The central government finalized the planned implementation of a new promotion mechanism for high-ranking positions, which would resemble the “job bidding” method introduced by Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Deputy Administrative Reforms Minister Eko Prasojo said the central government would adopt Jokowi’s recruitment strategy because it was deemed more transparent and accountable than the current system.

The President, according to Eko, welcomed the plan and asked his ministry to finalize the details.

“The government is currently drafting the state apparatus bill, which will include the open bidding mechanism. We need about two to three more Cabinet meetings to finalize the bill before we discuss it further with lawmakers,” presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said.

Jokowi won praise after he reformed the Jakarta administration district and sub-district heads recruitment process.

Earlier this month, more than 1,000 civil servants, including incumbents, vying for local leader jobs sat a series of tests — covering managerial, medical, psychological and general knowledge competency — in addition to the usual interviews. They were applying to be leaders in all 44 districts and 267 sub-districts in the Jakarta province. (dic)
