Tangerang mayor resigns, pending approval

Tangerang mayor, Wahidin Halim, announced his resignation in order to join the race for seats at the House of Representatives in the 2014 General Elections. The announcement was made at a preliminary meeting held at the city council on Tuesday.

Wahidin, who is also head of Banten Democratic Party board, acknowledged that by entering the general election race he had broken a promise to supporters to complete his second term.

Commenting on this, city council speaker Herry Rumawatine said it would be a long journey before Wahidin could kiss the city goodbye. He said the city council would deliver the resignation request to Banten governor, Ratu Atut Chosiyah and then from there the resignation would be delivered to the Home Ministry.

“We will wait for Home Minister’s decision. In the mean time, Wahidin will remain as mayor and he is obliged to perform his duties,” he said.(dic)
