National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Agus Rianto said Monday that a reporter injured during a demonstration at the Jambi Legislative Council was not shot by the police.

"He probably was wounded by fragments from a teargas canisters, not by a bullet," Agus said, explaining that Anton worked as a reporter for Trans7 television.

According to Agus, police officers released teargas canisters when the protestors demonstrating the government's plan to raise the price of subsidized fuel started pushing back the police security line.

"The Trans7 reporter was among the crowd the police were trying to control," Agus added as quoted by Kompas.com.

Currently, Anton is being treated at the Raden Mattaher general hospital, where doctors plan to operate on the wound to his right temple. (fan)
