President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his German counterpart former President Horst Kohler discussed the post-2015 development agenda on the sidelines of his state visit in Berlin, on Tuesday.

Yudhoyono co-chairs the UN High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons (HLPEP) on the Post-2015 Development Agenda with UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Kohler is a member of the HLPEP

As quoted by Antara news agency, Yudhoyono expressed his hopes after the meeting that Kohler would attend the next HLPEP meeting in Bali later this month. The last HLPEP meeting was held in Liberia in January.

Twenty six UN-appointed HLPEP members are working on a development agenda that will replace eight Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) which expire in 2015.

Yudhoyono said last year that the three co-chairs and the UN shared a common view that the next development agenda must be aimed at reducing the world’s poverty significantly.

Carrying out sustainable development efforts with available resources is one way to create just and sustainable economic growth.

The post-2015 development agenda has been worked on since September 2012 and should be complete in May 2013.

During his visit, Yudhoyono is also scheduled to attend an official meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. (ebf)
