Winds damage houses in Mataram

A house in Pejeruk Desa, Mataram was damage after being hit by strong winds. No injuries have been reported but material losses are predicted to reach millions of rupiah.

When his house was hit by the wind, Rohanip was performing his daily prayers and his wife and children weren’t at home.

“I was still praying while I realize that my house had no roof anymore. The roof and some of the supporting poles were taken by the wind,” he said on Tuesday.

The Mataram Disaster Mitigation Agency has recorded that to date 113 houses, damaged wind during the so-called extreme season, which started in early February.

Agency secretary Kemal Islam said the agency would provide an emergency tent for Rohanip. He added the agency was still considering how to provide permanent shelters for victims.(dic)
